UPSC Selection Committee Meeting Awaited as Department of Personnel Sends Dossiers and Service Records

Jaipur: In a major development for the state bureaucracy, the process for promotion of Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) has accelerated, with discussions expected shortly to fill 18 vacancies under the current promotion cycle.

According to sources, the Department of Personnel has forwarded the complete dossiers of eligible officers, including Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) and service records, to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

The date for the Selection Committee Meeting (SCM), which will finalise the recommendations for induction into the IAS, is now awaited.

18 IAS Promotion Vacancies Expected to Be Filled
The ongoing promotion exercise is likely to fill 18 vacancies in the Rajasthan cadre of the Indian Administrative Service.

Promotions from the Rajasthan Administrative Service to IAS are carried out through a rigorous selection process involving scrutiny of service records, integrity assessments, and evaluation by a committee comprising representatives of UPSC, the Central Government, and the State Government.

Officers from 1998 and 1999 Batches Among Main Contenders
Sources indicate that several senior RAS officers from the 1998 and 1999 batches are among the prominent contenders for induction into the IAS.

However, age-limit considerations may impact the eligibility of some officers, potentially reducing the list of candidates.

The final selection will depend on the officers’ service records, vigilance clearances, and overall performance evaluations.

Pending Sealed-Cover Cases May Also Be Examined
The Selection Committee may also revisit three pending sealed-cover cases from the previous promotion cycle involving:

Arun Prakash Sharma
Ramswaroop
Gopal Ram Birda
Sources suggest that the sealed-cover case of Gopal Ram Birda is likely to be opened during the upcoming deliberations.

What Happens Next?
With the required documents already submitted to UPSC, the next major step is the convening of the Selection Committee Meeting.

Once the committee completes its review and recommends eligible officers, the appointments will be notified by the Central Government, formally inducting the selected RAS officers into the IAS.

Significance of IAS Promotion for RAS Officers
Promotion to the Indian Administrative Service is regarded as one of the most prestigious milestones in the career of Rajasthan Administrative Service officers.

It enables experienced state civil servants to take on senior administrative roles at both the state and central levels, significantly expanding their responsibilities and career prospects.
